The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality patient care and administrative support in a specialty clinic. This role involves assisting providers during patient examinations and procedures, preparing patients for treatment, documenting medical information, coordinating patient care, and maintaining accurate medical records. The Medical Assistant ensures efficient clinic operations while delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet and escort patients to examination rooms.
- Obtain and document patient medical histories, vital signs, medications, allergies, and chief complaints.
- Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and specialty procedures.
- Assist physicians and providers during examinations and minor procedures.
- Perform clinical tasks such as EKGs, injections, specimen collection, wound care, and medication administration as permitted by state regulations.
- Clean, sterilize, and maintain medical equipment and examination rooms.
- Schedule appointments, coordinate referrals, and obtain prior authorizations when required.
- Update and maintain electronic health records (EHR) accurately and promptly.
- Educate patients on medications, procedures, follow-up care, and provider instructions.
- Process laboratory specimens and communicate test results as directed by the provider.
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies and notify appropriate staff when supplies need replenishing.
- Follow infection control, HIPAA, OSHA, and clinic safety policies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain a professional, patient-focused environment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, CCMA, or equivalent) preferred or required based on state regulations.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Previous experience in a specialty clinic or outpatient medical office preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office applications.
