The paralegal position researches law, investigates facts and prepares documents to assist counsel; and other duties that may be assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
- Researches and analyzes law sources such as statues, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes;
- Prepares and files legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, appeals, contracts, and other legal documents for review, approval, and use by counsel;
- Attends client meetings, hearings, and trials;
- Investigates factual evidence of cases and performs client interviews;
- Routine acquisition and organization of information from various private and public entities (AWCC, SSA, DWS, the VA, various courts, employers, healthcare providers, etc.);
- Conducts routine written discovery;
- Communicates with clients and opposing counsel regarding various issues;
- Performs other clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, taking dictation, composing and typing routine correspondence, and reading and routing incoming mail; and
- Other duties that may be assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University. One to Two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Paralegal certification preferred but not required.
